Rose development 1
I had an idea after reading and looking at Muniz and Donovan 's work and I thought I would continue to tear up my white cardboard (CB) box into small pieces and lay them on a white background in piles the shape of a large rose or flower to resemble a rose. As I tore the cardboard it came away in layers and some pieces curled so I separated the piles into curls, small pieces, medium pieces and twisted pices. In all, I tore up 3 white cardboard boxes. I drew a simplified idea or representation of the above rose onto a white canvas and started to apply the piles of torn CB. At this point I decided to try it out in white only but I also tore up a magenta coloured gift bag as a contrast. I was inspired by the recycled artwork we have been studying and it is my attempt to try out something different with the white box. I looked at collage techniques at
http://www.slideshare.net/lori2323/outline-3-combined but at this stage I'm following the idea's of Muniz who creates the artwork in a collage form then photographs it as the record of his work and destroys the original. I did apply a spary adhesive to the pieces didnt move before I could photograph them.
see images below and slideshow above.

Further development- tearing the white box into random shapes and sizes
Laying the torn cardboard pieces onto the canvas
Experimenting with light
I experimented with adding various light sources underneath my canvas or collage. I am adding them here just to document the process I didn't think it was successful in that although the light highlights the centre area it doesnt add anything to the overall apperance except a slight contrast. There is a conflict here between only using available recycled materials and wanting to add another coloured cardboard. that would improve the finished look of the piece.
I am happy with the image below as the final artpiece.
